This Ramadan French reading comprehension activities digital item will have your students using their reading comprehension skills to learn or review about the observance of the month of Ramadan. It includes a variety of activities to ensure that students have understood what they have read and practice activities to reinforce the vocabulary.
The entire activity is in French, it is suitable for level 2 and higher or level 1 with teacher support.
The Ramadan French reading comprehension activities include:
- Four short reading passages in French about Ramadan: What is Ramadan?, How is Ramadan observed?, What is an iftar? and Fasting during Ramadan.
- Eight comprehension questions about the readings – students will read the passage, then answer two questions before moving on to the next reading
- A list of French vocabulary terms relating to Islam and Ramadan
- A word search requiring students to complete the sentence and find the words in the puzzle
- A sequencing activity to put a daily routine in order
- A comparison activity with students determining whether a statement describes Eid Al-Fitr, Christmas, or both
- A vocabulary matching activity – match the image to the vocabulary term
The lesson is in genial.ly and does not require students to log in or have an account – just share the link and start! The activity is self-grading and students will move along as they get the answers correct. When students complete the lesson, they will be given the “secret words” to prove that they have done the work – you can have them take a screenshot of the page, or tell you the words orally.
This could be used as an introduction to the topic or as a review once you have learned about it in class.
