Make learning French and practicing the verb être fun with this Le Copain Parfait simple, comprehensible input French lesson plan and story. This lesson plan includes a story with targeted structures that can be repeated to give your students lots of repetitions. Comprehension activities to use after the story will allow you to engage your students and makes sure that your French lesson is truly comprehensible input.

Sophie is a carrot. She’s lonely and is looking for the perfect boyfriend. Online dating is the answer, but she’s got very particular requirements. Will she be able to find the perfect boyfriend? There are four targeted vocabulary structures that are used multiple times throughout the story. The targeted structures are:

• je suis – I am
• tu es – you are
• il est – he is
• un copain – a boyfriend

This very simple story is told in two different ways. There is a printable text version, and a PowerPoint/YouTube video version with audio. Tell the story as you watch it (pause if you want to stop and discuss or storyask!), or just watch it for comprehension. The video is just short of 11 minutes long, with French audio and text. With novice low and novice mid learners, you can tell the story as is. For novice high learners, you can add more details or write a parallel story. You could even use this story at higher levels by having students retell the story in the past.
