This fun novice/intermediate level French Pride month reading is a short story about the mois de Fierté and the history of LGBTQ+ rights in France. It includes a one-page reading about the history of gay rights in France, a two-page short story about a teen boy dealing with the decision to come out to his best friend, 20 printable posters of famous francophone LGBTQ+ personalities and comprehension activities.
In the short story, two best friends deal with one of them realizing that he is gay. His friend is supportive of him and shows that support in different ways. The story is in the past tense, using the imparfait and passé composé so it is suitable for level 2 and up.
After you finish the readings, there are comprehension questions and a story retell/rewrite activity. The readings are in printable pdf form as well as a PowerPoint version of each reading – read together as a class, or assign for individual reading.
Obviously, this subject matter may be sensitive. Please consider your students and your audience before sharing this with students. While there is no sexual content in the story or reading, some people may find the topic offensive.
