Bonjour! – French Comprehensible Input unit 1 for beginning French

This French Comprehensible Input unit 1 is an introductory unit that can be used the very first week of class! Includes lesson plans for 8 days, beginning with basic greetings. This unit includes the following materials:

• Powerpoint with lesson for each day
• Student dictionary handout page
• Handout to practice writing introductions
• Handout to practice writing introductions about other people
• Handout for students to practice asking for people’s names, nationalities, and places they are from
• Short story using vocabulary from the unit
• Cloze activities to accompany story – one with and one without word bank
• Running dictation game to accompany short story
• Handout for short story retell/rewrite

• Short assessments for unit: reading, listening, presentation speaking, interpersonal communication and presentational writing
• Unfair Game for the unit story

Use the unit as a jumping off point to start your year off comprehensibly! This unit is especially useful if:

• You are required to teach a textbook curriculum but prefer CI – it follows some of the most common sequencing found in current French textbooks.
• You want to do CI but you need a little bit of structure.
• You are required to give a common district final – it covers many of the things found in most first semester courses.
