We flew to Oslo today – which meant a fun taxi ride to the airport in Gdansk. Zbyszek just loves talking to people in Poland and finding out what things are like. Before we left our apartment, he said goodbye to Tadek, the security guard. I took one final shot of the construction site outside of our window. It has been fun watching the progress that the workers have made, although the jackhammering over the past two weeks wasn’t always enjoyable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the airport they had a fun lunch option – a bunch of duck dishes. We didn’t get any, but they sounded interesting. They also have a statue in the waiting area. There was a tree in the check-in area with a fun note thanking people for not feeding it coffee or any other drinks. We took off and said good-bye to Poland, until next time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Landing in Oslo, it was cloudy and the runway had a lot of snow in between the concrete areas. When we landed in Gdansk, they used the autopilot system and everyone had to turn off their electronic devices completely. The same thing happened today. At one point we could see the tops of the windmills poking above the clouds – either the windmills are very tall, or the clouds were really low! Of course, I couldn’t get a photo as everything was turned off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We were so happy that our luggage arrived, even though at this point we probably wouldn’t care as much. On our last trip, it was quite the ordeal and I went the entire 3 weeks in France without my things. The airport in Oslo is just like airports everywhere, but this one had some troll things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We took the train that goes into the city center – they come every 10 minutes and take about 25 minutes to get to Oslo, so really convenient. We picked the quiet car and it was QUIET. No crying babies, nobody listening to their phone at high volume. We said hello to our old friends again – Mr Snow and Mr Ice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We found our hotel and got checked in. It’s a very Scandinavian hotel – everything is just so, no extra frivolities or decoration. The room is utilitarian, small but comfortable enough. To turn on the lights in your room you have to put your key card in a slot – so you can’t leave and have the electricity being wasted while you’re out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We didn’t do a lot of exploration yet, but will do some walking around tomorrow. The local food hall has a bunch of different places to eat, so we picked up some pad thai. It was good, but expensive! The biggest problem with Oslo is that it is quite expensive. We visited the grocery store to get some drinks and fruit and ran across some interesting things. It turns out that the Norwegians really like their tacos. Their chocolate section left a lot to be desired – it was very small compared to France or Poland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here are a few shots from the neighborhood we are in. We’ll be visiting the Opera house and a cemetery with some famous old dead dudes tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
